Multimedia/Photography ShootOut Rules: “The Freedom Trail”:
Any AAJA conventioneers can enter their pictures and/or multimedia piece with the theme “The Freedom Trail” during a live contest that best illustrate the theme shot anywhere in the Boston area that can be shot from Wednesday through Friday.
Those interested in competing for the Annual Dith Pran Photography and Multimedia ShootOut should come to the meeting. Coordinators will help with assignments and helping out entrants with images to be turned in by Friday’s deadline. (Note: Meeting not mandatory to enter)
Deadline: Friday, August 14
Photography Rules:
Turn in maximum of five (5) photos any size. Place caption information in “File Info” in Photoshop. Your name must be in the “File Info”. Save .jpg with your entrant’s last name only. Be sure to include your name, email address and cell phone number/room number on how we can get a hold of you during the convention. Turn in entries in photo room on any media (ie. CD, CF, SD)
Multimedia Rules:
Turn in only one multimedia piece. This category highlights the use of photographic storytelling, audio, video, and animation in the presentation of web-based stories of any length. Judges will pay special attention to the use of available technology to complement and enhance the art of visual storytelling. Content, usability, and interactivity will also be evaluated to judged. Be sure to include your name, email address and cellphone number/room number on how we can get a hold of you during the convention. Turn in entries in photo room on any media (ie. CD, CF, SD)
Prizes: The perpetual trophy with the Dith Pran Award will be presented at the Gala Banquet on Saturday night. $200 in cash awards. Over $1,000 in other photography prizes.
Equipment: bring your own digital camera. Laptops will be not be available.

Four award-winning multimedia visual journalists will teach this workshop. Please bring your laptop. Having either Final Cut Pro, Final Cut Express, Soundslides, Audacity and Canon 5D Mark II is a plus. Internet will be available in room. This is different than the OnLine or Multimedia group sessions. There will be 10 Olympus digital audio recorders available.

Rick Rocamora, “Filipino WW II Soldiers: America’s Second-Class Veterans” (San Francisco Veterans Equity Center with support from San Francisco Foundation, Zellerbach Family Fund, and Tancinco Law Offices). Rick Rocamora has documented the lives of the Filipino veterans, still clinging to hard-won medals, military commendations and scraps of uniforms as they make their way in San Francisco’s toughest neighborhoods. Rocamora’s deep connection to the veterans allows a rare view into their difficult but always dignified lives, and creates a poignant story of pain, persistence and hope. Rocamora’s images have been part of investigative stories on the abuse of veterans in North Richmond, California, Medicare scam in San Francisco that used them, exhibitions in the US Congress and other venues and countless presentations and photo essays about their plight. His images have been part of their struggle and have been credited in inspiring others to advocate for equity for the veterans.
