Photo Internship Program
WHAT IS IT?
A highly selective, 12-week, individually tailored training program for students who are aspiring photojournalists or photo editors for the summer of 2011.
AM I ELIGIBLE?
The internship is open to full-time juniors, seniors (including fall 2010 graduates) and graduate students at American colleges and universities.
HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE IN THE PROGRAM?
We select a minimum of two students for photo internships.
WHAT ARE THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE PROGRAM?
You work with a designated trainer to help you in your development. You get paid. And best of all, you get to cover stories that could be featured in media outlets around the state or around the globe.
WHEN DOES THE PROGRAM START?
Start dates may be anytime between mid-May and mid-June, depending on your schedule.
WHAT DO YOU NEED FROM ME?
• A 300-word autobiographical essay on this topic: “The Associated Press seeks to recruit and retain a workforce that embodies a wide range of talents, experiences, achievements and journalistic skills. Please describe the qualities and accomplishments you would bring to the company.”
• A resume and cover letter (please include your projected graduation date)
• A portfolio of your work. Submissions should be a collection of jpeg images with captions on a CD. You should forego programs that include music or special transitions. A link to a website may be offered as a substitute for a CD.
• Two letters of reference, at least one from a professor or faculty adviser on school letterhead
• An interview with an AP chief of bureau
• A completed employment application

Contact your nearest AP bureau and say you want to apply for the Photo Internship Program. The application deadline for the summer 2011 program is Nov. 1, 2010.
Video Internship Program
WHAT IS IT?
The Associated Press Broadcast News Center (BNC) is offering a video internship during the summer of 2011 in Washington D.C. and New York.
AM I ELIGIBLE?
The internship is open to full-time juniors, seniors (including fall 2010 graduates) and graduate students at American colleges and universities.
WHAT ARE THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE INTERNSHIP?
The broadcast intern will work with a team that is producing content for our Online Video Network and AP Television News. It includes field work, editing and producing video packages that are distributed to broadcast television stations and Web sites in the United States and abroad. Interns will work with non-linear editing gear and learn broadcast writing and storytelling techniques. And you get paid.
WHEN DOES THE INTERNSHIP START?
Start dates may be anytime between mid-May and mid-June, depending on your schedule.
WHAT DO YOU NEED FROM ME?
• A 300-word autobiographical essay on this topic: “The Associated Press seeks to recruit and retain a workforce that embodies a wide range of talents, experiences, achievements and journalistic skills. Please describe the qualities and accomplishments you would bring to the company.”

• Three broadcast writing samples that can be any combination of the following:
o A script written for a TV newscast for a college TV station
o A script written for a radio newscast for a college radio station
o A script written for a broadcast journalism class assignment
o A script written for an internship at a broadcast station

Multimedia Internship Program
WHAT IS IT?
The Multimedia Department of The Associated Press is offering a 12-week internship during summer 2011.
AM I ELIGIBLE?
The internship is open to full-time juniors, seniors and graduate students at American colleges and universities. In addition, applicants must have HTML and audio editing skills, and must be proficient in Flash and Photoshop.
WHAT ARE THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE INTERNSHIP?
The multimedia intern will work with a team that is producing multimedia features for hundreds of online customers, including Yahoo, AOL and NYTimes.com. The internship includes production of Flash-based presentations that are distributed to Web sites in the United States. Interns will work with content from several AP formats – text, photos, audio, video and graphics – and learn multimedia storytelling techniques. And you get paid.

Start dates may be anytime between mid-May and mid-June, depending on your schedule.
WHAT DO YOU NEED FROM ME?

• A timed newswriting test (taken at the bureau)
• An employment application (completed when you test)
